Early Childhood Education NCEA Level 3



This is NOT an ‘approved subject’ for University Entrance. This course leads to: The award of New Zealand Certificate in Early Childhood Education Level 3 and prerequisite requirement in to tertiary courses in ECE. New Zealand Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 4) New Zealand Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care (Field Based) (Level 5) Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Teaching)


NCEA Level 2 certificate of achievement or equivalent certificate.

Course Description:

The MIT Certificate of Achievement in Early Childhood Education Level 3 is designed for Year 13 students. The units to be studied follow on from the Year 12 Certificate of Achievement in Early Childhood Education and continue to build students’ knowledge and skills in the education and care of young children in early childhood education settings. This course aims to prepare students to advance into higher Level early childhood education and care. The programme is made up of one compulsory unit standard and a choice of six options at Level three. Students will need to complete at least 4 unit standards to achieve a minimum of 14 credits at Level three. Schools may offer the unit standards individually or as a whole package. Students will need to have the opportunity to participate in an ECE service to meet the assessment requirements on this programme for a number of unit standards at this Level. The programme has a minimum of 85 contact hours.
