Standards marked (R) may be counted towards the reading credits in Literacy. Standards marked (W) may be counted towards the Writing credits for Literacy. Standards marked (R/W) may be counted towards either (but not both) the Reading or Writing credits for Literacy. A minimum of 5 Reading (R) and 5 Writing (W) are needed for University Entrance Literacy. Students applying to the University of Auckland will require at least 17 credits in English at NCEA level 2 or 3.

Background:

The ability to read and write reasonably well in English is a requirement for this subject. Students should have completed a Year 11 programme and achieved ESOL NCEA Level 1.

Course Description:

Students focus on improving their reading and writing skills. Credits offered are sufficient and appropriate to gain Level 2 Literacy. Students are expected to sit the end-of-year external examinations.
