Students would benefit by having studied Art in Year 10. Year 10 Art and Design is an excellent preparation for this course and while not essential is highly recommended.Course Description:
Visual Art NCEA Level 1 is a practical and research based course upon which all further study in Art, Design and Photography are based for NCEA and the CIE Art programme. The prescription encourages students to explore a diverse range of art activity. Skills are developed in drawing, painting and printmaking. Students completing this course will demonstrate more skills in spatial awareness, creative imagination, personal art techniques and critical faculties which will support their learning in all the Visual Arts and in the wider school curriculum. The homework expected in this subject is the equivalent of half an hour per night, i.e. approximately three hours per week. Students will submit a portfolio of work for external assessment. An exam is provided at the end of Term 3. In Term 4 students will commence working on their selected NCEA Level 2 or CIE AS syllabus.Achievement Standards:
