11ADP

UE:

This subject leads to UE approved subjects in either the NCEA or CIE pathways.

Background:

Students would benefit by having studied Art in Year 10. Year 10 Art and Design is an excellent preparation for this course and while not essential is highly recommended. An understanding of observational drawing would assist in this course.

Course Description:

Art (Design & Photography) NCEA Level 1 is a practical and research course upon which all further study in Design and Photography for NCEA and CIE are based. Learners will engage in developing their own brief and creating a series of projects fitting to their proposals. Projects include a logo, poster, publication, photomontage and business card. Learners will work primarily using Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, as well as using hand drawn tools and online applications such as Adobe Capture. Learners skills are also developed in photography through the production of a series of photoshoots; and creating Cyanotype printing and Photograms by using experimental darkroom processes. These skills are then applied to their individual design brief which extends the student’s understanding of digital photo media. The homework expected in this subject is the equivalent of half an hour per night, i.e. approximately three hours per week. Students will submit a portfolio of work for external assessment. An exam is provided at the end of Term 3. In Term 4 students will commence working on their selected NCEA Level 2 or CIE AS syllabus.
