This subject is equivalent to a subject on the ‘approved list’ for University Entrance.

Recommended Background:

Grade C or better in Mathematics AS or permission from the Faculty Head. Students will need to have completed the Mathematics AS paper and will do one further advanced paper in Pure Mathematics, P2/3 and the S2 Statistics option.

Course Description:

This course is advanced and after successful completion a student will be well prepared for any university course requiring Mathematics. PURE MATHEMATICS Differential and integral calculus is extended in both depth of coverage and the number of functions examined. Complex numbers and numerical solutions of equations are introduced. STATISTICS OPTION Statistics extends the range of probability models to include the Poisson distribution. Continuous random variables are introduced as is the relationship between sampling and estimation, which includes hypothesis testing.
