This subject is equivalent to a subject on the ‘approved list’ for University Entrance.

Recommended Background:

This course is open to students who are native speakers of Chinese (Mandarin or a Chinese dialect). Students must know how to read and write Chinese. Students who have successfully completed AS Chinese may also be considered for this course. This course will be taught before school.

Course Description:

This course covers reading and writing, essay writing and study of 3 or more Chinese literary texts. All textual material used in the examination will be drawn from a wide range of topical areas with reference to countries/communities where Chinese is spoken. This course provides a sound foundation for NZQA Scholarship Chinese examinations. The five essay writing topics for examination in 2020 are:

  • Conservation
