Literature in English AS Level - 9695

This subject is equivalent to a subject on the 'approved list' for University Entrance. Grade E or better at AS will be sufficient to satisfy the minimum Literacy requirements for University Entrance. Students applying to the University of Auckland from 2016 will require a Grade D or better.

Recommended Background:

Students are advised that a grade demonstrating competence at IGCSE level, generally a ā€˜Dā€™ or above, is required for entry into English Literature AS and is subject to approval from the Faculty Head. A student not meeting this standard will need to have permission from the Faculty Head.

Course Description:

Students undertake a robust study of a range of texts in different genres. They are required to show a critical appreciation of the texts and the way writers use language to shape meaning. Assessments are in the form of academic essays in which students produce informed, independent opinions and judgements of the texts under high-pressure examination conditions. Students may have the opportunity to attend cultural events linked to the course content at their expense. Note: This course leads to English Literature A2 Level.
