Course Description:

Art (Painting) AS is a practical Fine art course upon which further study in painting, mixed media and critical thinking at A Level and tertiary levels is based. The work is studio based so that students develop their abilities of observation and analysis of the visual world, personal expression and imagination. The work will also be informed by research into established forms of painting and mixed media and the course includes a gallery visit. Students are guided to select the materials, techniques and processes which suit their own personal way of working. Opportunities to work in photography, mixed media and printmaking are allowed for in this programme. This course is excellent preparation for careers in art and design, architecture, spatial and interior design, animation and many other careers in the creative industries. Topics Covered: Research based on a selected art topic Investigation of painting, drawing and mixed media Investigation of techniques and processes in drawing, painting and printmaking Drawing and painting conventions related to selected topic of study Extending ideas within the selected topic towards finished paintings Final coursework piece Examination preparation work 15 hour exam on a selected exam topic
