Art (Painting) AS requires skills and knowledge from studying Year 11 Art. Students who have or fewer than 12 credits in NCEA Level 1 Art Visual at Merit should consult with the Faculty Head about their likelihood of successful progress.Course Description:
Art (Painting) AS is a practical course upon which further study in painting and critical thinking at A Level and tertiary levels is based. The work is studio based so that students develop their abilities of observation and analysis of the visual world, sensitivity, skills, personal expression and imagination. The work will also be informed by research into established forms of painting. Students will have the opportunity to use a wide range of drawing and painting media and are guided to select the materials, techniques and processes which suit their own personal way of working. This course is excellent preparation for careers in art and design, architecture, spatial and interior design, animation and many other careers in the creative industries.Components:

Students who successfully complete Art (Painting) AS - 9479 in 2019 will be able to proceed, in 2020, to Art (Painting) A Level – 9479. Students will need to achieved Grade D or better in Art (Painting) AS and have sound academic essay writing skills.
